Do I need a whole-house humidifier in Utah?
Most Utah homes benefit from a whole-house humidifier in winter. Indoor relative humidity commonly drops below 20% December-February, which causes dry skin, static shocks, cracked wood floors, and makes respiratory infections worse. Target 35-45% RH.
Most Utah homes benefit from a whole-house humidifier in winter. Indoor relative humidity commonly drops below 20% December-February, which causes dry skin, static shocks, cracked wood floors, and makes respiratory infections worse. Target 35-45% RH.
Utah winters are exceptionally dry — outdoor humidity is already low, and heating that air drops indoor RH to 15-25% in most homes.
That's low enough to cause cracked hardwood floors, gaps in wood trim, static shocks, dry skin and eyes, more frequent sinus and respiratory infections, and even makes your house feel colder at any given thermostat setting.
A bypass or steam humidifier ties into the furnace and keeps indoor RH in the 35-45% range automatically. Important: don't over-humidify. Above 50% RH in winter, you start seeing condensation on windows and potential mold in exterior walls.
Our install includes an outdoor temperature sensor that automatically reduces target RH as it gets colder outside to prevent condensation issues.
