Common Questions

HVAC FAQs

How do I know what size AC I need?
A Manual J load calculation considers your home's insulation, windows, orientation, and local climate to determine exact BTU needs. Rule-of-thumb sizing (600 sqft/ton) is a starting point, but a proper calculation prevents oversizing — which causes humidity problems and short-cycling.
What's the difference between a heat pump and an AC?
A heat pump provides both heating AND cooling from one outdoor unit. It works like an AC in summer and reverses the cycle in winter. In Utah's climate, a dual-fuel system (heat pump + gas furnace) provides the best of both worlds.
How often should I replace my furnace filter?
1-inch filters: every 1–3 months. 4-inch media filters: every 6–12 months. Higher MERV ratings capture more particles but need more frequent replacement. We recommend MERV 11–13 for most Utah homes.
My energy bills are high. Is it my equipment?
Usually not. High bills are most often caused by oversized equipment (short-cycling), leaky ductwork (losing 20-30% of conditioned air), or poor insulation. A diagnostic can identify the real cause before you spend money on new equipment.
Do you offer financing for HVAC systems?
Yes. We offer flexible financing options for equipment replacement and major repairs. Ask about our payment plans when you get a quote.
