500+ Reviews

Your electrical panel is the heart of your home's power system. If your panel is rated at 60A or 100A, it was designed for a different era — before EV chargers, heat pumps, kitchen remodels, and home offices. A 200A panel upgrade provides the capacity you need now and room to grow. And if you have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, replacement is a safety imperative.

The Details

What You Need to Know

A panel upgrade involves replacing your existing circuit breaker panel with a modern, code-compliant unit rated for higher amperage. This includes the main breaker, bus bars, all branch circuit breakers, and often the service entrance cable from the utility meter. We handle the full scope: disconnect, panel swap, circuit transfer, grounding, and inspection.

Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) and Zinsco panels have well-documented safety issues. FPE breakers have been shown to fail to trip during overloads, and Zinsco breakers can overheat at the bus bar connection. Both conditions create fire risk. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has investigated these panels. We strongly recommend immediate replacement regardless of age.

Modern panels include Arc Fault (AFCI) and Ground Fault (GFCI) breaker protection as required by current NEC code. AFCI breakers detect dangerous arcing in wiring (a leading cause of electrical fires) and GFCI breakers protect against electric shock near water. Your upgraded panel will include both where code requires them.

Why Utah Homeowners Choose Us

Support Modern Loads

EV chargers, heat pumps, kitchen remodels, and home additions all need capacity a 100A panel can't provide.

Replace Dangerous Panels

Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels have documented safety failures. Modern panels are safer and more reliable.

AFCI/GFCI Protection

Modern breakers protect against arc faults (fires) and ground faults (shock) throughout your home.

Future-Ready

A 200A panel provides headroom for future additions, EV charging, home batteries, and solar.

Got Questions?

Panel Upgrades FAQ

?How much does a panel upgrade cost?
A 200A panel upgrade in Utah typically costs $2,500-$5,000 depending on existing wiring condition, panel location, and whether the service entrance cable needs replacement. We provide a detailed quote after inspection.
?How long does a panel upgrade take?
Typically 6-10 hours for a standard upgrade. Power will be off for most of the day. We coordinate with the utility for the brief disconnect/reconnect at the meter.
?Do I need a permit?
Yes. Panel upgrades require an electrical permit and inspection by your city or county. We handle the permit process and schedule the inspection.
?How do I know if I have a dangerous panel?
Look for the brand name on your panel door: Federal Pacific Electric (FPE/Stab-Lok) or Zinsco/GTE-Sylvania. If you see either, we recommend immediate replacement. Our free electrical guide has photos to help you identify your panel.
?Will a panel upgrade increase my home value?
Yes. A modern 200A panel is expected by home inspectors and buyers. An outdated or dangerous panel often appears on inspection reports and can complicate home sales.
