Variables
What changes the number
These are the specific factors that determine your quote — knowing them lets you compare quotes apples-to-apples instead of guessing. For your real installed price, use the get an instant hvac quote link below — it accounts for all of these automatically.
AC tonnage (system size)
Sized via Manual J. Most Utah homes need 2–4 tons. Larger ≠ better — oversizing short-cycles, doesn't dehumidify, and shortens equipment life.
SEER2 efficiency tier
14.3 SEER2 is the current Utah-region minimum. 16, 18, and 20+ SEER2 cost more upfront but qualify for higher Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart rebates and lower lifetime energy bills.
Refrigerant type
R-410A is the current standard. R-32 (next generation) is rolling out in 2026 — slightly higher install cost but higher efficiency ceiling and lower global-warming impact.
Existing equipment compatibility
If you're replacing only the AC and the indoor coil/furnace are 10+ years old or mismatched, AHRI-certified ratings only apply when the indoor + outdoor are matched. We test compatibility on every quote before recommending partial vs. full system replacement.
Lineset condition
If the existing copper refrigerant lineset is over 15 years old, was on R-22, or is undersized for the new tonnage, we replace it. Skipping this voids manufacturer warranty.
Outdoor unit access
Standard side-yard pad install: included. Rooftop, basement-window-well, or tight rear-yard installs add labor.
Scope
What's included vs. extra
Compare this list against any other Utah quote you receive — line items hidden in one quote and itemized in another are how the same job ends up “cheaper” on paper but more expensive after add-ons.
Included in our quote

- AHRI-certified AC condenser + matching evaporator coil
- New refrigerant lineset or pressure-tested existing

Stack the savings
Rebates & tax credits that apply
These are independent programs that can stack on the same install. We file Rocky Mountain Power and HEEHRA on your behalf; you claim the IRA credit on your taxes (we provide the AHRI certificate). The get an instant hvac quote link below shows exactly which apply to your install.
IRA Section 25C federal tax credit
ENERGY STAR rated AC
Federal tax credit you claim on your annual return for installing a qualifying ENERGY STAR system.
Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart rebate
Tier-2 (16+ SEER2) systems
Utility rebate that posts to your power bill within 60 days of install. We file the paperwork.
HEEHRA point-of-sale rebate
Income-qualified households (≤150% AMI), heat-pump pairing only
Federal program administered by Utah, applied directly to install price at the time of purchase.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why is the same AC cheaper online than installed?
+
An online price is the bare condenser. Installed pricing covers the matched evaporator coil, refrigerant lineset, electrical work, concrete pad, permit, inspection, AHRI-rated commissioning, and warranty registration. The condenser itself is roughly 35–45% of the total install cost.
Can I just replace the outdoor AC without touching the indoor furnace?
+
Sometimes. If the indoor evaporator coil is the same refrigerant type (R-410A) and rated for the new outdoor tonnage, yes. If your indoor unit is older than 10 years, on R-22, or rated for a different tonnage, AHRI matching breaks and the warranty is voided. We test compatibility on every quote before recommending partial-system replacement.
How long does AC replacement take in Utah?
+
A standard AC-only replacement takes 4–6 hours. A full system replacement (AC + furnace + coil) takes a full day. We pull the city permit ahead of the install and schedule the city inspection same day or next morning.
